Salud affirms that it has a proposal to vaccinate children between 5 and 11 years old with Pfizer and that they manage more doses – Prensa Libre

The Ministry of Health referred this Wednesday, November 3, to the issue of vaccination against covid-19 and other aspects related to the pandemic.

Eliú Mazariegos, general director of health services of the Ministry of Health, reported on the vaccination of minors between 5 and 11 years of age,

The official indicated that there is already a proposal for the vaccination of this sector of the population made up of 2.1 million children.

He added that there is an analysis by the Ministry of Health and the actions to be taken to vaccinate children.

He said that they are waiting for the meeting with the pharmaceutical company Pfizer to specify the amount of input that should be applied to a child between 5 and 11 years old.

According to Mazariegos estimates, 50% of the target population has been covered with one dose, and 33% with the complete scheme. In the vaccination of people between 12 and 17 years of age, there are approximately 10% of those vaccinated.

He stressed that the more coverage of vaccinated with a complete scheme is registered, the amount of admissions to hospitals decreases, as does the number of deaths.

He said that according to the latest count, there are approximately 60,000 doses of Pfizer, plus those that the National Center for Biologicals has available to continue with coverage of second doses.

He recalled that the idea of ​​vaccination in adolescents from 12 to 17 years old was for minors with comorbidities, but in the end doses were administered to users without the aforementioned condition.

He affirmed that Health is taking steps to acquire more Pfizer vaccine and continue vaccinating minors without comorbidities.

You are aware that 2.5 million doses are scheduled to enter in mid-November. They also make arrangements with other pharmaceutical houses and cooperators to obtain more doses.

Starting this week, they will monitor the 340 municipalities to see vaccination coverage and vaccine availability.

He also mentioned that last weekend and the November 1 holiday saw crowded tourist centers and there will probably be a rebound in covid-19 cases in weeks.

Always on the topic of the pandemic, Mazariegos added that an analysis has been made of the closures of some vaccination posts derived that the influx of people has decreased.

On October 29, the United States authorized the Pfizer-BioNTech virus vaccine for children ages 5 to 11, paving the way for a new stage in the immunization campaign that concerns 28 million people.
