Salma Hayek, Celebrity | The 90s star is back: – Stopped being angry

Salma Hayek admits that it can still be a hot ball on the film set, but is not as cursed anymore.

Mexican actress Salma Hayek (54) made her big breakthrough with the action film Desperado (1995) where she played against Antonio Banderas.

Thanks to her film success, she almost overnight became one of the hottest names in Hollywood.

Later we saw her as a stripper From Dusk Till Dawn (1996), singer in Studio 54 (1998) – about the legendary nightclub in New York, the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo in Frida (2002), a role that earned her an Oscar nomination, and the western film Wild Wild West (1999) – to name a few.

Now she is back in the spotlight and fronts the new action movie Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard. As with the breakthrough film, Hayek does his own stunts.

– It was insanely fun to make this film. I think I have never had as much fun as in this film, says a committed Hayek in an exclusive interview with Nettavisen.

According to Hayek, it is not a matter of course that women are offered action roles. She is very grateful that she, as a 54-year-old, gets to play a physical character.

– I have to be careful about how I word myself so I am not misunderstood. But there is no doubt that there are far too few roles for women. We have a long way to go. Having said that, I am very happy that such major changes have taken place in recent years. Today, female actors front far more films than just a few years ago. So we must not forget that many positive things are happening in the industry when it comes to the representation of women, not only in front of the camera, but also behind, she says, but admits:

– There are far too few female directors in the film industry. In addition, men often run away with many of the roles. Many of these roles could just as easily have gone to women. But I do not think it is useful to be angry. As a long-standing activist, I know from experience that change takes a long time. I have therefore decided not to be angry anymore, something I was for many, many years.

In cinematic current Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard plays Hayek against Deadpoolstar Ryan Reynolds (44) and Samuel L. Jackson (72).

If we are to believe the Mexican actor, the three actors had a completely unique interaction.

Delayed action scenes

– I struggled to keep the mask on when we recorded the scenes. Just looking at Ryan and Samuel’s faces made me laugh. We often had to interrupt the recordings, she laughs and continues:

– There are some very long scenes in this film. And then I mean really slow and as “over-the-top” as you can get. Because of my funny opponents and everything that happened in the scenes, it was almost impossible not to burst out laughing. Ryan and Samuel, on the other hand, are very focused actors. They never forgot their lines and managed to keep the mask on, she says.

Hayek can look back on a film career of over 30 years.

She has eventually worked with many of the greatest co-stars and directors in Hollywood. When asked what has been the highlight of all these years, she highlights the collaboration with Reynolds and Jackson.

– I have been in this industry for many years. Admittedly, it takes several years between each time I collaborate with such professional actors as Ryan and Samuel. They are some real gentlemen. I feel like I learned so much from them. They are actors I admire and look up to. Ryan and Samuel are very different as actors, among other things in the way they improvise. Ryan is very structured and thoughtful, while Samuel is spontaneous, chill and is more rock ‘n’ roll. I had to learn to adapt to each of their playing styles. It was a very fun challenge that I would not have been without.

– Antonio is like a brother

In the film, Hayek also plays against her longtime close friend and colleague Antonio Banderas (60). Over the years, they have made many films together. Hayek says she is happy to be reunited with her old friend.

– He means a lot to me. We started our careers in Hollywood at the same time and we have a unique friendship. We often talk together. There are not many friends in this industry I have had for more than twenty years. Antonio is like a brother to me and he gets along well with my husband, says Hayek, who married the French billionaire François-Henri Pinault (59) in 2009.

She adds:

– I am a good friend of Antonio’s girlfriend and I even have a good tone with his ex-wife. And the kids are so cute, she smiles.

– People think we’re going to kill each other

Hayek reveals that it can go hot on the set when Banderas is present.

– We speak Spanish together. It makes us very engaged. People around us think we should kill each other. When we talk together, it sounds like we’m in a fight and are about to yell at each other. But that’s just the way the Spanish language is, she laughs and continues:

– Spanish is just so dramatic and intense. I think it’s a great entertainment value to see us talk, she laughs.

She was very happy when she learned that Banderas had been cast for the film.

– I’m glad he’s in, for several reasons. One of the reasons is that all of Banderas’ films are big hits, she says with a twinkle in her eye.

Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard is already out in Norwegian cinemas.
