Sale impresses with a session in Boston

There was an unusual group of people on the field Thursday before the game at Fenway Park. Players, staff members and the press gathered to watch Chris Sale take his second live batting practice of the week (first with Boston’s big team).

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said he was impressed with what Sale saw and said the pitcher will probably get one more session before starting a rehab assignment.

“Good, very good,” Cora said. She “Threw 94, 95 with a nice changeup. That’s the difference from last year. He was a two-pitch pitcher [recta y slider] for a month and a half. But this year, obviously more time has passed since surgery.

“In the offseason, he and [Nick] Pivetta worked on it,” he continued. “He threw a few today and Rob’s reaction [Refsnyder] and from the rest of the hitters it was good. I don’t know what comes next. We will sit down and analyze it. But it was much better than last year, and it was good last season.”
