Nationwide Mobilization Against Controversial Motorway Project

A demonstration against the motorway project is scheduled for this Saturday, April 22, at 8 a.m. Between 1,500 and 2,000 people are expected, including a hundred radical individuals. Several groups will be present, such as the local association La Voie est libre, the Uprisings of the Earth movement and the Confédération paysanne. They are organizing a weekend of actions called “A69, exit from the road”, to oppose the motorway project deemed useless and ecocide. “This nationwide mobilization promises to be high risk, with in particular a demonstration from 12 p.m., on the route, the terms of which remain secret in order to thwart the security system that will be put in place”according to a note from the central territorial intelligence service consulted by TF1 / LCI. “Sabotage operations are likely to be carried out by groups of activists on the various construction sites or infrastructures linked to the project, in particular in the municipalities of Cambounet-sur-le-Sor, Puylaurens and Saix”continues the note.

Asked about LCI on Tuesday morning, Gérald Darmanin said he feared a rally with consequences comparable to what had happened. in Sainte Soline (Deux-Sèvres) on March 25th. “There are several major projects in France: construction of TGV lines, construction of motorways, airport extensions, basins which, as we have seen in Sainte-Soline, are the subject of strong disputes”begins the Minister of the Interior. “Legitimate protests, of course, we can demonstrate against this construction of the motorway, it’s normal, it’s democratic, but there are risks that radical individuals are present, so we have put forces of the order. I have every confidence in the prefect of the Republic to organize it correctly. I believe that we are on the eve, as everywhere in Europe, of extremely strong and violent challenges from the ultra-left on many projects, and it doesn’t just affect basins, TGVs and airports, it just affects the Republic”concluded the Minister of the Interior.
