Built in 2006, the hospital is expanding its healthcare offer to meet the needs of the population. Its activity is increasing, in part because of the shortage of general practitioners.
Attached to the Hospitals of the Thau Basin, headquartered in Sète, the Saint-Loup hospital has 92 beds, divided between internal medicine, short stay in geriatrics, follow-up and rehabilitation care and long-term care.
It has an outpatient clinic (addictology, algology, visceral surgery, memory consultations, gyneco-obstetrics, neurology, orthogenics, pediatrics, pneumology, tobaccoology, urology), a day medical reception (AMJ) for consultations unscheduled and small emergencies (closed due to Covid.
It should reopen the second half of June from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays), a 24-hour SMUR for vital emergencies, a medical center on call (open from 8 p.m. to midnight, Saturdays from 12 a.m. to midnight, Sunday from 8 a.m. to midnight) and temporarily hosts the City’s vaccination center.
Expanded offer, activity on the rise
By expanding its offer of care and its equipment (scanner in 2018, MRI soon), the Agde hospital can take care of many pathologies, with the exception of those requiring a technical platform (emergencies, operating theaters, ultrasounds …) Or specific care (cardiology, gastroenterology, gyneco-obstetrics, pediatrics, intensive care, resuscitation). An orientation towards the hospital of Sète is then carried out.
Asked about the local context (increasing population, decrease in the number of general practitioners), management indicates that “the impact on WAN and the medical center is certain”. So, “WAN strengthened considerably at the end of 2018, with an increase from 4,300 to 6,200 visitors in 2019”.
Doctors at Saint-Loup Hospital note a growing trend of patients discharged from their wards. “to call directly the doctor who took care of them if they cannot reach their own doctor”.
As for SMUR’s activity, it has almost tripled since 2014 (from 500 to 1,300 annual interventions).
