Safeguarding habitats for biological diversity – Freiburg

Management plan for FFH area “Kandelwald, Rosskopf and Zartener Becken” is available / can be viewed on the Internet and from authorities.

(BZ). From the jackdaw crab in Ibenbach near Buchenbach to the ciliated bat in the attic of the Friedrich-Gymnasium in Freiburg to the stag beetle in the Gundelfinger Forest: The biological diversity in the fauna-flora-habitat area (FFH) “Kandelwald, Rosskopf and Zartener Becken” in and near Freiburg is great. In order to preserve and develop the natural treasures, the Freiburg Government Board (RP) has drawn up a management plan that has now been published and can be viewed.

The approximately 2200 hectare FFH protected area “Kandelwald, Rosskopf and Zartener Becken” is one of the 212 FFH areas in Baden-Wrttemberg which, together with the bird protection areas, are part of the European Natura 2000 network, as announced by the RP. The area extends over Freiburg, Waldkirch, Glottertal, Gundelfingen, Kirchzarten and other communities. In order to implement the management plan, the district administrators, cities and municipalities, owners and managers are now called upon to contribute to the protection and preservation of native animal and plant species and to secure their habitats, according to the RP. The management plan contains proposals for the flowing waters as well as for the management and maintenance of areas. In creeks with rare jackdaws and stone crabs, for example, the introduction of crayfish plague must be prevented through preventive measures. For example, the staff of the construction yard should be trained accordingly when carrying out maintenance work on the water. To keep meadows and pastures open, young Gehlze should be pushed back. The continuation of the near-natural forest management should secure the existence of the habitat types in the forest.

The management plan can be found on the Internet at mehr.bz/natura-2000. An inspection is also possible at the specialist authorities in the district offices of Emmendingen and Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, at the city of Freiburg and at the government office after registration by telephone. Information and a film on the FFH area “Kandelwald, Rosskopf and Zartener Becken” are available under “News” on the website http://www.rp-freiburg.de.-
