A line of cars in Zakopane stretched between Pcim and Kraków. The route normally takes about 40 minutes, and on Sunday evening the ride took up to two hours. Driving the entire route from Zakopane to Krakow took drivers up to five hours.

At around 6:30 p.m., an intense snowstorm passed between Rabka and Myślenice. Snow quickly turned into mud, a large layer of which lies on the roadsides and between the traffic lanes.

There were no accidents in Zakopane. The traffic jams were caused by the traffic volume and the fact that drivers tried to climb the hill with tires unsuitable for the season.

Radio RMF FM reported that police patrols had to pave the way for the sandblasters to clear the snow. There were 10 plows working on the route. – Unfortunately, as it turned out, many drivers forgot to change to winter tires – added. After 9:30 p.m., the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways in Kraków informed that traffic in the Zakopane area was smooth.

IMWM warns against icy roads in 14 provinces

On Sunday, the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued a first, lowest degree weather warning against road icing for almost all of Poland.

The alert is valid in the entirety of the Pomeranian, Warmian-Masurian, Podlasie, Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Greater Poland, Masovian, Łódź, Lublin, ¶wiêtokrzyskiego and Opole. The roads will also be icy in the Podkarpackie voivodships, Ma³opolskie i ¶l±skim, excluding the southernmost counties.

The warning is also valid in the eastern and southern areas of the voivodeship dolno¶l±skiego. IMGW informs that the roads will remain icy until tomorrow morning.
