The Attic room and the Workshop room of the Palace of the Counts of Gabia, headquarters of the area of Culture and Historical and Democratic Memory of the Diputación de Granada, will host from this week an exhibition composed of the works awarded in the Artistic Creation Awards that granted the provincial institution.

The Artistic Creation Awards, officially delivered on December 30 of last year, recognize the work of 25 plastic artists from the province, and include distinctions in the modalities of painting, sculpture and installation, drawing and comics, and photography. Their aim is to stimulate local contemporary art and contribute to the development of the cultural sector and artistic production in Granada, and are endowed with 2,000 euros per author.

The coordinator of the Culture area, Samuel Peña, presented the exhibition this Monday, which has 25 works that are distributed in the modalities of painting (13 awards), sculpture and installation (4), drawing and comic (3) and photography (5) and has indicated that “they are part of the heritage of the institution and of the history of the provincial council.”

The director of the Guerrero Center, Francisco Baena, explained that “since it was an open call, which was not restricted by a topic, many people showed up, for which the awards reflect very different works and very different universes, but we have achieved order them in a way that we think that they dialogue with each other and enrich each other when they are related, we believe that without being an exhibition designed by choosing the works to tell an argument, it reflects very well and makes a kind of panoramic view of the most current art and I live that it is being done right now in the province. “

The Artistic Creation Awards are part of the measures aimed at the cultural sector within the Granada Plan for Economic and Social Recovery launched by the Provincial Council to alleviate the effects of the pandemic. This initiative includes, among other measures, cultural programs and activities and campaigns to sensitize citizens about the need to continue consuming culture.

The exhibition will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., on weekdays, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Sundays and holidays.
