Sadales tīkls will invest 60 million in the renewal of the electricity network :: Dienas Bizness

This year JSC “Sadales tīkls” plans to invest more than 60 million euros in the renovation of the electricity network, renovating 1,600 km of power lines, 460 transformer substations, as well as reconstruction of distribution electrical installations in substations “Jāņciems”, “Mīlgrāvis”, “TEC-1”, “Valka”, “Salacgriva” and “Plavinas”.

Also in the coming years, JSC “Sadales tīkls” plans to invest approximately 60 million euros annually, improving the security and quality of electricity supply. Special attention is paid to improving the quality of voltage.

One of the largest investment projects is the reconstruction of the historical electricity network in the center of Riga, which has been gradually carried out since 2014. The initial total length of this electricity network was 191 km, providing electricity supply to more than 32,000 users, but when the reconstruction of the electricity network began in 2014, 112 km have been restored. This year, the largest projects are being implemented in Aleksandra Čaka, Artilērija, Lāčplēša, Elizabetes, Miera, Upes, Hospitāļu, Matīsa and Ausekļa streets. The reconstruction of the historic electricity network in Riga is planned to be completed by 2023.

The reliability of electricity supply will be significantly increased by the reconstruction of the distribution system’s electrical installations in the substations “Jāņciems”, “Mīlgrāvis”, “TEC-1”, “Valka”, “Salacgrīva” and “Pļaviņas”. Reconstruction of equipment will provide customers with the opportunity to build new grid connections or increase capacity, as well as reduce equipment operating costs and power outages required for equipment repairs. In order to increase work efficiency, a joint Eastern Dispatching Center will be established this year in Aiviekste, Madona region, combining the existing dispatching centers in Daugavpils and Aiviekste, and in Riga – a single Logistics Center, combining six regional material warehouses.

Smart technologies and solutions help ensure an uninterrupted power supply. In order to be able to control the power grid remotely, reducing the time of power supply interruptions to customers, in addition to remotely controlled switches in the medium voltage power grid, an automatic fault location system is purposefully introduced, which will significantly relieve the work of power grid dispatchers. Continuing the development of the smart electricity network, this year it is planned to install 150,000 smart electricity meters in accordance with the developed plan. Already today, 88% of the distributed electricity is counted with remotely readable meters. The introduction of smart meters will be completed in 2022.
