Saakashvili leaves Georgian politics

To date, the former president of Georgia has been transferred from prison to the Vivamedi clinic for treatment.

Mikheil Saakashvili intends to leave politics. This was announced on Saturday, July 30, by the lawyer of the third president of Georgia, Valery Gelbakhiani, writes Echo of the Caucasus.

“Saakashvili, who is currently serving a prison term, wants to devote time to his health,” the politician’s lawyer said.

At the same time, he specified that he intended to leave the United National Movement party he had founded.

“The main task of the agenda was the preservation and salvation of his life. Therefore, all other issues have been removed. He generally comes from Georgian politics, not only from the National Movement. Now this is a matter of life and death, not politics. Obviously, the task is completely different, than it was before his return,” the lawyer said.

Recall that Mikheil Saakashvili was detained last fall after returning to his homeland. In protest, the politician went on a hunger strike, which he stopped several times and resumed again. According to Saakashvili’s lawyers, family and supporters, his state of health is extremely serious and he needs medical treatment abroad. To date, the president has been transferred from prison to the Vivamedi clinic.

Recall that on February 21 it became known that Saakashvili went on hunger strike again.

Let’s add, November 20, 2021 Mikhail Saakashvili ended a 50 day fast.
