Ruud – Berrettini 4:6, 7:6, 6:2, Norwegian tennis player Casper Ruud defended his victory at the tournament in Gstaad

The 23-year-old finalist of this year’s Roland Garros confirmed that he is doing well in Switzerland. In addition to the successful defense in Gstaad, the world number five also has titles from the last two editions of the tournament in Geneva and holds a 16-0 match record on Swiss soil.

But in the match with Berrettini today, Ruud had to make up for the loss of the opening set, which the Italian won in 48 minutes. The Norwegian tennis player won the second set in a shortened game and then won the third set thanks to a single successful break in the fifth game. He beat an opponent who was three years older in more than two and a half hours and celebrated his third title this year.

Shortly after the victory, Ruud withdrew from the follow-up tournament in Kitzbühel, where he was also supposed to defend last year’s title. He explained the absence next week in Austria with shoulder problems. “We are very sorry. Casper played on painkillers this week and without a break his problems would have worsened,” said Ruud’s father Christian, himself a former tennis pro.

Berrettini’s bid for a third tournament triumph in a row, after wins on grass in Stuttgart and Queen’s Club, failed. He then lost his participation in Wimbledon due to a positive test for the coronavirus, and now, after a forced break, he returned to the circuit with another final participation. Like Ruud, he withdrew from the upcoming tournament in Kitzbühel.

She defended Bejlek in Olomouc

Czech Sára Bejlek successfully completed the tournament pilgrimage in Olomouc. The winner of this year’s Junior Roland Garros in doubles and semi-finalist in singles won the opening set in the final smoothly in 26 minutes. In a more nervous second set, in which both rivals had problems holding serve in the strong wind, but she did not take advantage of the 4:2 lead and eleventh-seeded Gjorčeská forced a tie-break. Then the Czech tennis player dominated the match 7:0.

With her triumph at Hané, where she rejoiced at the premier women’s title last year, the currently 181st tennis player in the world ranking followed up on her victory at the ITF tournament in Česká Lípa in June. In May, she also succeeded in Santa Margharita, Italy, and maintains a 100% success rate in finals on the circuit.
