Russia’s Role in the Ukraine Conflict: A Vision from Former Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov

The Guardian newspaper has published an article by Oleksiy Reznikov, the former defense minister of Ukraine, in which he shares his vision of the current situation in Ukraine and Russia’s role in it.

Reznikov emphasizes that Russia and its partners are not just provoking a conflict in Ukraine, but are challenging the world order and international law. He expresses concern that the reaction of the civilized world to Russia’s actions in Ukraine and the ultimate results of that conflict could affect whether the world succeeds in preventing a third world war.

Russia insists on recognizing the occupied territories of Ukraine as its own, but Reznikov believes that this is only a technique used by Russia to buy time and prepare new resources to continue the war. Russia does not recognize the existence of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, and its goal is the destruction of Ukrainian statehood, reports news.bg.

Reznikov appealed to the West and stressed that its determination could prevent Russia’s nuclear threat. He urges the development of an international strategy to minimize the risks of using Russian nuclear weapons and the spread of Russia’s nuclear technology to other countries.

Finally, Reznikov calls for the creation of an international tribunal for Russia’s crimes in Ukraine to assess all of Russia’s alleged war crimes, including genocide, cultural genocide, ethnocide and others. He believes this tribunal is essential to ending the war in Ukraine and ensuring justice for the victims of the conflict.
