Russia’s Corona Vaccine Finally Underwent Clinical Trials on 40 Thousand Volunteers

Jakarta

Russia make a scene for claiming to succeed in creating Corona vaccine the world’s first ready-to-use. Many have expressed skepticism because the development of the vaccine had not previously been reported.

The World Health Organization (WHO) is in direct discussion with the authorities in Russia. Before it can be widely used, this vaccine called “Sputnik V” must pass various levels of clinical trials just like any other vaccine candidate for safety reasons.

The Russian Direct Investment Fund, the agency that finances vaccine development, responded by announcing that Sputnik V will be tested again on about 40,000 volunteers starting next week. The head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriyev, said testing was equivalent to clinical trials level III.

In an online discussion, Kirill said that testing will be carried out on medical personnel, soldiers and individuals in risk groups on a voluntary basis.

“We see a significant change of view from WHO. Initially they did not have enough information about the Russian vaccine, but now an official report has been sent and they can evaluate it,” Kirill said as quoted by France24, Friday (21/8/2020) .

Kirill added that regulators could actually allow the use of vaccines without WHO approval.
