At least 20 people have been killed and 59 injured, after Russian forces fired on Tuesday rockets at a mall in the town of Krementsjuk. Ukrainian authorities estimate that between 200 and 1,000 civilians were staying here during the attack.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has published a video on Twitter of what is to be the rocket attack:
Russia, for its part, has claimed that the rocket hit a weapons depot near the mall, and that the mall then caught fire, according to NTB.
In a videotalePresident Volodymyr Zelenskyj contradicts Russia’s claims that the rocket did not hit the mall directly:
– Today I want to end this speech with evidence, so that no one dares to lurk about the rocket attack on the shopping center in Krementsjuk, Zelenskyj says in the speech, before playing a video of what will show the Russian rocket attack.
– The Russian rocket hit this specific target. With intent. Of course it was the order. It is obvious that Russian killers received coordinates for this rocket. They wanted to kill as many as possible in a peaceful town, in a regular mall.
Vladimir Putin said in a comment on the attack on the shopping center of the Russian news agency Interfax, Wednesday night, that Russia does not shoot at civilian targets.
May have made a mistake
In its daily war update on Wednesday, the British Ministry of Defense writes that there is a “realistic possibility” that the rocket attack was intended to hit another target nearby.
– Russia’s inaccuracy in carrying out long-range attacks has previously resulted in mass accidents with civilian casualties, the ministry writes and refers to then two rockets hit the train station in the town of Kramatorsk in April.
