Russian offensive in Donbas to culminate in coming weeks – tsn.ua

The army of the aggressor country Russia resumed the offensive in some areas of the Donetsk region.

A slow advance can provide limited advance on Donbass northeast of the E40 highway and will end with the occupation of Slavyansk or Bakhmut. The current Russian offensive is likely to culminate somewhere along the E40 in the coming weeks.

This is discussed in report American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Analysts emphasize that over the past few weeks, the occupying forces have not made significant progress in the direction of Slavyansk. Moreover, they continue to reduce their offensive combat power in local battles for small and relatively unimportant settlements throughout the Donetsk region. It is noted that the Russian Federation tried to take Seversk after the capture of Lisichansk. However, as of July 20, it has not reached its goal.

The occupiers have not yet been able to launch direct attacks on Bakhmut. Analysts note that they are largely mired in fighting over small settlements to the east and south of the city.

But the efforts to attack Slavyansk ceased. However, no significant progress was made within a few weeks.

“The resumption of the active offensive of the occupiers after a short operational pause has not yet led to significant progress, although it is possible that the restoration of forces may bring limited success in the coming days. Russian troops are now moving with difficulty over relatively sparsely populated and open areas,” the ISW stressed. .

ISW predicts that Russian troops will encounter terrain that will be more favorable to Ukrainian defenders the closer they advance to the E40 around Slovyansk and Bakhmut. This is explained by the density of population and the development of these territories.

Recall that the 148th day of the heroic opposition of the Ukrainian nation to the Russian military invasion began. The Armed Forces of Ukraine forced the invaders to flee near the Uglegorsk TPP. More about the situation at the front – in the summary of the General Staff as of July 21.
