“Russian Occupation Forces Family to Scatter Across Three Countries – A Mother’s Day Story”

“We were occupied on the first day of the war. We heard the first explosions at five in the morning, but at eight there were already tanks in our garden. Russian tanks,” said Svetlana.

Currently, Svetlana has found a temporary home in Ranka and a job in the school kitchen. On Mother’s Day, a woman misses her mother, who stayed in Ukraine, and her daughter, who went to Spain.

The war has scattered the rich family across three countries. Svetlana does not know when she will be able to celebrate Mother’s Day as usual.

The eldest daughter was the first to leave Ukraine – she went to Spain. Svetlana lives with her granddaughters in Ranka, Latvia, but part of the large family remains in Ukraine.

Svetlana sincerely hopes that the day will come again when the whole family can gather together. She is also quite grateful to Latvia for the asylum provided.
