Russian Ministry of Defense Announces Drone Attacks and Explosions in Kursk

The explosions in Kursk were first reported in local public pages. Footage was also published online showing flashes in the sky and the sounds of an explosion.

Representatives of the regional authorities explained the situation by the work of air defense due to the drone attack.

“Air defense is operating in the skies over Kursk. Please remain calm!” the local governor said in a statement.

Later, the defense department of the aggressor country made a statement about allegedly “suppressing an attempt” to attack using a UAV. Traditionally, the Russian Ministry of Defense blames Ukraine for the drone strike.

The Russian ministry also said that the drones were aircraft type. The two drones were allegedly shot down at 5:30 p.m. local time.

“Duty air defense systems destroyed two unmanned aerial vehicles over the territory of the Kursk region,” wrote the press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense.

It is noteworthy that the number of “shot down targets” over Kursk differs in statements by local authorities and the Russian ministry. So, according to Starovoit, there are twice as many of them.

“The air defense continues to work, I ask you to remain calm. At the moment, four UAVs have already been shot down,” he wrote in his Telegram around six in the evening, although Shoigu’s department did not update such data at this time.

Explosions in Russia and drone attacks

Let us remind you that explosions regularly occur on Russian territory and fires start, and some of them, in particular, are associated with drone attacks.

So, for example, the night before last in Russia they announced an attack by a UAV, which was destroyed near Moscow. Already in the morning, RBC-Ukraine’s sources in the intelligence services reported that the drone attack on Russia was a special operation of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense. The drone targets were in the Moscow and Kaluga regions.

Recently, the Main Intelligence Directorate also stated that Russian propaganda fantasized that after the explosion on December 12, at the oil depot in Voronezh they allegedly decided to organize rescue exercises. Military intelligence recalled that opponents of the Putin regime then blew up a fuel tank on the territory of the Rosneft oil depot in Voronezh, which started a fire.
