Two matches were played this afternoon as part of the Russian Cup quarter-finals. Sochi crossed swords with Lokomotiv Moscow and Akhmat Grozny faced Ufa. In the end, it was Lokomotiv Moscow and Akhmat Grozny who won and went to the semi-finals.
Lokomotiv Moscow relied on their providential scorer to take down this difficult Sochi side. After many attempts, Smolov finally found the net at the very end of the first half (44th) and allows his team to lead to the break. Upon returning from the locker room, Sochi will be reduced to 10, following the expulsion of Zaika who received a red card. This will allow the Lokomotiv striker to find more space to worsen the score in the 63rd minute. Smolov thus signs his double in the match, before giving way to Guinean François Kamano in the 69th minute. A minute later, Yusupov allows Sochi to reduce the score (70th), before Kamano kills Sochi’s hopes by scoring the third goal late in the game (90th).
The second meeting between Akhmat Grozny and Ufa ended with a goal to zero in favor of Andrey Talalaev’s men. Kharin is the only scorer of the game (55th). It should be noted that in the 90th minute, Morozov received a red card and forced his team to finish the game in a numerical shortage.
A very good operation therefore for Lokomotiv Moscow and Akhmat Grozny who go to the semi-finals. Tomorrow will be the continuation of the quarter-finals with the matches Krylia Sovetov-Dynamo Moscow and Arsenal Tula-CSKA Moscow.
