Shortly after the start of Russian hostilities on Ukrainian territory, both UEFA and the International Association of Football Federations (FIFA) announced the suspension of Russian clubs and national teams from all competitions, including this year ‘s World Cup.

“No Russian club will be able to compete in the UEFA club competition in the 2022/2023 season,” UEFA said in a statement.

As a result, Russian teams will not be able to participate in the Champions League, European League, Conference League, Women’s Champions League and Youth League next season.

The Russian women’s national team will also not take part in the upcoming European Women’s Championship in England in July, and Russian footballers will not compete in the 2023 World Cup qualifiers. Russia will take the place of Russia in the European Championship.
