A Russian arms dealer who was released in a prisoner exchange with US women’s basketball star Brittany Greiner has said he fully supports his country’s invasion of Ukraine.
Viktor Butt said in an interview on Russian state television on the 10th local time that if he had the opportunity and the ability, he would certainly have volunteered for the “special military operation” against Ukraine.
Bout also said he had a portrait of Russian President Vladimir Putin while he was in prison: “I am proud that I am Russian and that our president is Putin,” he added.
Bout is nicknamed the “merchant of death” due to his deep involvement in arms trafficking in conflict zones such as Afghanistan.
