One person was killed and three injured in a Russian airstrike on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv on Saturday night. The Ukrainian authorities report this on Sunday morning. Thanks to anti-aircraft fire, at least twenty kamikaze drones are said to have been shot down.
A 41-year-old man was killed when debris from drones fell on a gas station. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said this on Telegram on Sunday morning.
In other places in the city, fire broke out in buildings due to falling debris from drones. Klitschko warns of a new wave of drones heading towards Kyiv. He advises residents not to leave the shelters.
Ukrainian authorities are calling it the largest drone strike since the start of the war. It would concern 54 drones, of which Ukraine says it has destroyed 52.
Witnesses say to news agency Reuters that they heard several explosions after air raid sirens went off in much of the country.
The attack comes on the day the capital celebrates Kyiv Day, the official founding of the city 1,541 years ago. Normally, fairs, live concerts and special museum exhibitions are organized that day. They are also available this year, but on a smaller scale.
