The police are looking for the detainee who managed to escape the prison of Ghent at 10.45 am yesterday. He did this by climbing over the prison wall using a forklift.

A massive search around the penitentiary, which is located in a densely populated area in the city center, yielded nothing in the first hours after the escape.

Later, the fugitive was also searched for in the wider area, and in the evening the federal police distributed a search message. It does not explain the personality or state of mind of the convicted fugitive.

It is clear that the man speaks Dutch fluently, is approximately 1.80 meters tall and was wearing a black T-shirt, light gray trousers and black shoes at the time of the escape. He may have forgotten his glasses during the escape.

European Arrest Warrant
As of today, Abubakarov has been spotted internationally. A European Arrest Warrant has been issued. It is not clear whether the fugitive is receiving assistance, or has weapons or a vehicle. In the interest of the investigation, the public prosecutor in Belgium does not provide any explanation about the ongoing investigation. The police use all means to find the escaped prisoner.

The man had been serving a sentence of 12 years in prison since December 2012, and therefore still had more than three years in prison if he was not released early. Anyone who sees the fugitive Mouslim Aboubakarov is advised not to approach him and to contact the Belgian federal police immediately.
