Russia, Turkey, and Qatar to Establish New Grain Agreement

Russia, Türkiye and Qatar are preparing a new agreement to replace the grain deal.

Russia, which withdrew from the grain deal, under which Ukrainian products were supplied by the Black Sea routes to international markets, and switched to an attempt at a naval blockade of Ukraine, is preparing a new agreement with Turkey and Qatar instead of the previous agreements.

This is reported BILD, who had at his disposal official correspondence between the Foreign Ministry and the embassies of the Russian Federation and Turkey from July 21 to August 8, from which it follows that the Kremlin warned the Turkish side in advance about withdrawing from the grain deal, and now Moscow, Ankara and Doha are trying to conclude a new trilateral agreement. As part of this deal, Russia wants to supply its grain to poor countries, mainly African states. Turkey, in turn, will act as an organizer, and Qatar as a sponsor of supplies.

At the same time, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan asks the Kremlin to return to the previous deal, so that grain from Ukraine could be supplied to international markets. In addition, Türkiye proposes to act under the auspices of the UN.

According to the newspaper, a new agreement can be signed as early as this weekend in Budapest, where the head of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will arrive.

Recall that the Financial Times wrote on July 21 that the Russian Federation was promoting an alternative grain deal and ousting Ukraine from world markets. It was just about the proposal by Turkey and Qatar of a plan for the supply of Russian grain to Africa. However, then it was noted that Ankara and Doha did not agree to Russia’s proposals.

Meanwhile, this week from the port of Odessa came out the first vessel since Russia’s disruption of the grain deal. We are talking about the Joseph Schulte container ship, which used the temporary corridor opened by the Ukrainian Navy in the Black Sea.
