Russia. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs comments on the protests in Belarus. He spoke about the “Ukrainian scenario” | World news

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, referring to the protests on Bia³orusi, emphasized during the Sunday youth educational forum that “Belarusians will decide for themselves how to solve this situation” – reports the news agency TASS.

– I believe that clear signs of normalization of the situation are quite important. I also know that not everyone likes it and there are those who, however, want this normal, peaceful trend of events in Belarus to be violent, they want to provoke bloodshed and transform these events into a Ukrainian scenario, he said. He stressed that, in his opinion, the Belarusian opposition and Western countries “are not satisfied that the protests are not getting louder and more massive”.

– Our approach is very simple: it is an internal matter for Belarus. Belarusians deal with the situation on their own, being a wise nation. The most important thing is that the unrest is not provoked from outside, added the head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Lavrov also stressed that Russia she will not be opposed to any decision taken by the Belarusian authorities on dialogue with the people.

– But when the West says that only mediation with Western countries will be effective, everyone obviously has fresh memories of how it all developed in Ukraine. Western mediation made our consensual partners unable to fully meet their obligations, he commented. According to Lavrov, the talks on constitutional reform in Belarus announced by Lukashenka are “quite a promising path”.
