Russia stops flights for its tourists to Bulgaria

Russia stops the flights of its tourists to Bulgaria and we are left without them on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast for the second season. This ads for TravelNews Evelina Puleva, member of the Board of the Burgas Regional Tourist Chamber. The last flight of the Russian airline S7 to Bourgas will be on May 9, she said. Until now, there was one flight a week from the end of March. The flight was suspended following a call by Russian politician Vladimir Zhirinovsky, one of the most ardent supporters of President Vladimir Putin, who asked the state to officially ban the purchase of property in Bulgaria, as well as travel to our country for tourism.

No Russian tourists abroad

The reason is the pandemic of COVID-19

Tour operators have information from Russian citizens that currently the Bulgarian embassy in Moscow does not issue visas. Such are set only for mixed marriages. “We are worried about the season. The situation is difficult and we cannot endure a second season without Russian, German and British tourists, who are among the most important guests for the big resorts,” Evelina Puleva commented. According to her, the caretaker government must take urgent measures.

Recently, German and British tour operators canceled holidays in Bulgaria for the beginning of the summer season in May and June. “All trips for May and June to Bulgaria have been canceled and redirected by the German tour operator DER Touristik,” said Kalin Sutev, manager of Destination Tourist Services, a representative of DER Touristik in Bulgaria, which includes the ITS tour operator. The charter airline Bulgarian Air Charter has also ceased flights from Germany to Varna and Bourgas airports until the end of June. Registrations in Germany and other markets for the Bulgarian Black Sea coast are stagnant, said Nina Chamova, general manager of Suntours, which is a representative of the German tour operator Alltours.

Ivan Groshev, manager of MTS Bulgaria pointed out that most of the registrations go to 2022 and look more to the next, not the upcoming season. The company is a representative of the German tour operator FTI, the British Jet2Holidays and the Russian “Coral”. Money does not see the opening of the Russian market and this year. The British concern has already postponed its program to June 24 and canceled all breaks for the start of the season. Groshev expects Bulgaria to fall into the yellow corridor in the UK, which means it is not among the safest destinations for summer travel. The other major British tour operator Balkan Holidays UK has also postponed its program and charters for July.
