A total of six Russian landing craft capable of carrying battle tanks, troops and other military vehicles were deployed last week.
Ukrainian military intelligence claims Russia is recruiting mercenaries and supplying its troops in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions with fuel, tanks and artillery. This equipment is said to be used to fight Ukraine.
The agency also said a large military force, including Iskander short-range ballistic missiles, elite Russian troops and anti-aircraft batteries, had arrived in Belarus. The Guardian.
This new deployment is a cause for concern for the United States.
“What worries us is the overall picture,” the state office said in a briefing last week.
“The buildup of 100,000 troops on the Ukrainian border, combined with the movement of forces in Belarus over the past week, this figure is larger, of course, than what we predicted from normal exercises,” he continued.
The official also said the new power in Belarus demonstrates Russia’s increased ability to launch these attacks, increase opportunities, improve means and improve routes.
The US also considers the Russian military arrival in Belarus as a cover to attack Ukraine.
