Russia Says Criticism of Its Vaccine “Absolutely Unfounded” and a Product of Competition

(UNO Agency) – The Minister of Health of Russia, Mikhail Murashko, has defended this Wednesday that the criticism of the vaccine developed by Russian research centers son “Absolutely unfounded”, blaming them on “competition” in the international market for finding the drug against COVID-19.

“Foreign colleagues, who apparently feel some competition and competitive advantages of the Russian drug, they try to express some opinions that, in our opinion, are absolutely unfounded ”, he said in statements to the press collected by the news agency Sputnik.

Some countries have expressed doubts about the true effectiveness of Sputnik V, as the Russian authorities have baptized the vaccine against COVID-19, since not even completed clinical trials – phase 3 left– and has already been registered as such.

Russian President Valdimir Putin announced on Tuesday that the country has registered the coronavirus vaccine developed by the Gamaleya research center and the Russian Fund for Direct Investment (RFPI), the first to be registered worldwide.

It is a double dose vaccine that generates “A lasting immunity” that “will be preserved for up to two years”, according to the Ministry of Health. The Russian authorities estimate that they could produce 500 million doses annually and they are already weighing several countries to start mass production, specifically in Latin America.

In this sense, Murasahko has specified this Wednesday that “the first batches of the vaccine will be produced in the next two weeks” and that they will initially be used for domestic demand. “We need to meet the demand of our citizens”, has justified.

The RFPI has already received requests from more than 20 countries to purchase 1 billion doses of Sputnik VAlthough the Russian agency has clarified that its export will depend on “the approval of the vaccine in different countries, as well as the production capacities.”

However, Russia has exceeded 900,000 cases of coronavirus in recent hours (902,701) by adding 5,102 new positives, while the number of deceased people has risen to 15,260 -129 more than in the past day- and the patients recovered are already 710,298, including 7,123 counted since Tuesday.
