The Russian Foreign Ministry said it would hand over its response to the US letter on security assurances today and release it to the public.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that today, Thursday, February 17, Russia will respond to Washington’s proposals on security guarantees. The letter will be sent to the Americans in electronic and paper form, as well as published for public review. TASS.
“We are completing the analysis of the American letter. I hope that in the very near future you will learn how the situation will develop further. At least we will send this letter to the American side today,” he said.
Lavrov confirmed that the answer would be published. “We believe it is absolutely essential that interested members of civil societies in our countries have an idea of what is happening, what positions each side stands for, because otherwise, if it is kept secret, as our colleagues in Washington and Brussels prefer, then public opinion will clog with the lies, outright propaganda that now fills the information spaces when describing what is happening in Europe, on the border between Russia and Ukraine,” the head of the Russian diplomatic department explained.
At the same time, Lavrov noted that Russian requirements for security guarantees were formulated on the basis of international agreements.
