Russia: Hijab photo allowed in citizenship application

Web Desk: Russia relaxes its rules to allow foreign women applying for citizenship to submit hijab photos for documents.
According to the Russian media, according to the statement released by the Russian Ministry of Interior, the new law will be applied from May 5, under which women applying for citizenship will be able to submit their photos with the hijab along with the necessary documents.
The Russian Interior Ministry says that if an applicant’s (female) religious beliefs prevent her from appearing in front of strangers without covering her head, she can submit photos of herself wearing a headscarf.
The statement clarified that the photographs provided with the application should not cover the face and photographs in which the applicant’s chin is fully or partially covered would also be inadmissible.
Note that Russian women are already allowed to use hijab photos for official documents such as passports, driving licenses and work permits.
Russian officials say the new laws will allow applicants to practice their religious beliefs and ensure state security.
According to the report, during the Soviet era, submission of all passport photos without hijab was prohibited, however, after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Muslim women started wearing hijab in passport photos.
