Russia denies Putin’s declaration of war on Ukraine May 9: It makes no sense

Russia denied the rumors that the President Vladimir Putin will declare war on Ukraine on the 9th of May. According to them, the speculation is unreasonable.

“There’s no possibility [deklarasi perang]. It makes no sense,” said the spokesman for the Russian government, Dmitry Peskov, Wednesday (4/5), as quoted by Reuters.

Peskov emphasized this denial after a number of parties, including the United States, predicted that Putin would officially declare war on Ukraine on May 9.

The date of the declaration coincides with Victory Day which is celebrated annually in Russia to commemorate their victory over the Nazis in 1945.

US officials expect Putin to declare war to celebrate their military “victory”.

From the start, Putin called Russia’s invasion of Ukraine a “special military operation.” If Putin has officially declared war, Russia can exert its full power under the law.

Under the law, Russia can deploy reservists and conscripts. Currently, Russia is said to really need additional troops in Ukraine because of the fierce resistance of the local army.

Ukrainian and Western officials estimate that Russia has lost at least 10,000 troops since the invasion of Ukraine began on February 24.

This troop shortage was allegedly the reason Russia withdrew its troops from the central region of Ukraine, including the capital Kyiv.

Now, Russia is focusing its attacks on the eastern region of Ukraine, which is directly adjacent to the Land of the Red Bear.
