Meanwhile, Turkey’s Defense Ministry issued a statement saying talks had “ended” with no indication of whether progress had been made.

The threat of famine is indeed engulfing Africa and other poorest countries due to the fighting between the two countries. How come? The fighting is engulfing one of the world’s major grain-producing regions.

Ukrainian officials say at least five people were killed in Russian shelling in the area around the Black Sea port city of Mykolaiv.

“You never get used to war. It’s terrible and scary,” said 60-year-old Lyubov Mozhayeva in the partially devastated frontline city of Bakhmut.

Ukraine is an important exporter of wheat and grains such as barley and corn. It has also supplied nearly half of all sunflower oil traded on the global market.
