Russia and China Collaborate on Placing Nuclear Power Plant on Moon by 2035, Says Roscosmos Head at World Youth Festival

Russia and China are considering the possibility of placing a nuclear power plant on the Moon. The head of Roscosmos, Yuri Borisov, announced this at the “Knowledge.First” marathon as part of the World Youth Festival in Sirius.

“Today we are seriously considering a project somewhere at the turn of 2033-2035, delivery and installation on the lunar surface together with our Chinese colleagues of a power plant. This is a very serious challenge. As you understand, everything needs to be done automatically, without human presence, using robotic means, because this is radiation,” Borisov said.

According to him, now “work on the exploration of the Moon… is connected with China,” and an agreement on joint work on the lunar program has already been signed.

As reported EADailyThe World Youth Festival (WYF) takes place from March 1 to 7 on the federal territory of Sirius in the Krasnodar Territory by decree of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin. The organizer of the event is the federal agency Rosmolodezh.
