Rüsselsheim: drug and 190000 euros cash secured during raid

In a raid in Rüsselsheim city center and on the station forecourt, five men were temporarily arrested on Tuesday afternoon. In addition, police officers confiscated drugs and a tens of thousands of euros in cash.

The focus of the raid, which also included forces from the federal police and employees of the Rüsselsheim city police, was “the fight against street crime and drug trafficking,” said the police headquarters in South Hesse in Darmstadt.

Before the extensive control campaign, residents had warned of a possible drug trade in downtown Rüsselsheim. Investigations by Commissioner 34 of the Rüsselsheimer Kriminalpolizei confirmed the suspicion of the residents after small quantities of drugs had been seized and suspects had already been arrested.

Raid in Rüsselsheim: civilian investigators observe drug sales

On Tuesday, civilian investigators also observed several suspected drug sales near Rüsselsheimer Europa and Löwenplatz, the police report said. During the subsequent controls, police officers then confiscated pre-packaged marijuana and a so-called one-handed knife.

Rüsselsheim: Police search two apartments and two shops

At the same time, police officers also searched two apartments and two shops. The public prosecutor’s office in Darmstadt had requested search warrants from the responsible district court. During the searches, the officers found around 25 grams of marijuana and white powder, which, according to the investigators’ initial findings, may have been cocaine.

Officials are opening suspicions of money laundering

Around 190,000 euros in cash were also discovered in one of the shops searched in Rüsselsheim city center and proceedings were initiated on suspicion of money laundering. So far, officials have provisionally arrested five men. The police initially did not provide any information about the age and nationality of the men. The federal police also checked around 30 other people in and at Rüsselsheimer Bahnhof.

“The investigations and further follow-up measures by the Rüsselsheimer Kriminalpolizei are still ongoing,” said a police spokeswoman in Darmstadt early Tuesday evening.
