Rumor: AMD releases Zen 4 CPUs with DDR4 support for AM4 motherboards – Computer – News

There have also been some pretty annoying bugs (and still exist) with the AM4 platform. Probably partly because of the points you mention. Couple of big bugs in my case (B550 motherboard) that are still not solved 2 years later, or to put it another way: after 8+ major BIOS updates.

1. My PC crashes the whole network several times a day. No more internet in my house until I restart my network adapter. Got fed up with a few BIOS updates later and bought a dedicated network card, now 16 months later still exactly 0 times the network.
2. My PC crashes every time I insert or remove a flash drive from my PC. BIOS version 15C by now, still the case. Edit: And ironically, those BIOS updates have to be done with a flash drive, as far as I know there is no easy 1-push BIOS update option over the internet.

Just doesn’t make sense at all, AMD probably won’t be the main culprit but they really don’t make it any easier with their thousands of possibilities for motherboard + CPU combos within one generation of CPUs.

Long story short: reducing e-waste has significant drawbacks and hurdles, not just pluses.
