Rumor: AMD B550 chipset gets support for multiple GPUs and PCI-E 4.0 – computer – news

AMD’s upcoming B550 chipset is likely to receive support for PCI-E 4.0 and multiple video cards. This is evident from information from the Chinese website HKEPC. It is not yet known when the first B550 motherboards will be released.

The B550 chipset is mainly an improved version of B450, HKEPC writes. The tech site writes that the new chipset officially supports PCI-E 4.0 for video cards and M2 SSDs. However, the lanes in the chipset itself pci-e 3.0. To take advantage of the newer pci-e standard, users must install a Ryzen 3000 cpu, as such processors do include pci-e 4.0 lanes.

The new chipset also offers native support for USB 3.1 gen 2 with transfer rates up to 10Gbit / s. Also, according to HKEPC, users can still overclock their CPUs with a B550 motherboard, and the chipset supports multiple video cards with CrossFire or SLI. Current B350 and B450 motherboards do not offer this support.

An image of a suspected B550 motherboard was released earlier this week, VideoCardz reports. This motherboard has a micro-ATX form factor and contains two ddr4 dimm slots, two full pci-e connectors and a single m2 connection. The motherboard also has a relatively simple VRM design with 4 + 2 phases. HKEPC also shares an image of a motherboard with B550 chipset. This motherboard has four dimm slots, but further specifications are still unknown.
