Rotterdammers caught in the act when they tried to sell an elephant tusk | Inland

Detectives from the environment team of the Rotterdam police saw an advertisement on the internet in which the tusk was offered. Investigations led to the pair, who were arrested. After a night in jail, they were released pending a decision on prosecution from the Public Prosecution Service. It is unknown how the men got the tusk.

A European trade certificate is required for the sale of raw ivory, which has no longer been issued in the Netherlands since 2019. The trade in ivory is subject to strict international rules to protect elephants from poaching and eventual extinction.
