RoyaltyThe Dutch royal family will be in Rotterdam on Thursday to celebrate King’s Day. According to the organization, the birthday king Willem-Alexander (56) and his entourage are waiting for a typical Dutch, colorful and diverse program.
The Oranjes start the day at the Afrikaanderplein in South Rotterdam where Willem-Alexander, who turns 56, will be serenaded for his birthday. Children from several schools in the area perform the song ‘Kings & Queens’, composed especially for King’s Day.
The royal family is then treated to music and dance from different cultures and nationalities. Acrobatic tricks are also performed. Singer Glenda Peters closes the first part of the day with the song ‘Rotterdam’.

Willem-Alexander and his family then travel from the harbor by water taxi. They sail past the famous former passenger ship ss Rotterdam. The company then continues their journey on foot for some musical performances and sports demonstrations. Finally, the day will be concluded on a large stage at the Markthal, where Rotterdam artists such as Davina Michelle, Ronnie Flex and Lee Towers will perform.
Where is Princess Alexia?
Princess Alexia is not present at the celebrations today. This has to do with exams that the princess has: the 17-year-old princess goes to school and lives in Wales. Alexia is the middle daughter of the royal couple. She attends the United World College of the Atlantic, where she has been taking her International Baccalaureate since September. Alexia is second in line to the throne after her sister Amalia. Last year she was also present on King’s Day. Then the Dutch royal family celebrated in Maastricht.
