A total of 46 employees of gold company Iamgold / Rosebel Gold Mines (RGM) in Suriname have now been officially tested positive for the corona virus. Three new cases were added on Saturday. BOG has informed the RGM medical team that 3 contractors who left the site between 20 and 21 June have tested positive for COVID-19.
Nine people have now been cured. The number of active cases is 37 and Waterkant learns that their health status is stable. Currently, 259 employees of the gold company are in government quarantines.
The number of positive COVID-19 infections in Suriname increased by no less than 76 cases on Saturday. There are now 265 active cases. 6 people are in intensive care, 191 people have been cured and 11 have died. 314 persons are in government quarantines.
The work at the Surinamese gold company has been stopped for more than two weeks. The Rosebel Goldmines Employee Organization (RGWO) and the company’s management team have inserted a hush of silence.
