LONDON: England legend Wayne Rooney has retired from football. He announced his retirement as a player and coach of Championship club Baya Derby County.
Rooney has announced his retirement as full-time coach of Derby County. Rooney has held the position since the ouster of Philip Koku. The 35-year-old Rooney has coached in nine games since last November, with the team winning three and drawing four. Rooney left DC United for the United States a year ago and returned to England. Rooney’s return was to work as a coach as well.
Rooney is Manchester United’s all-time leading goalscorer. He has won several trophies with Manchester United, including the Champions League. Rooney grew up at Everton and played for Everton again before moving to the United States. Rooney is the English national team’s all-time leading goalscorer. Rooney joined United from Everton in 2004 at the age of 18. He scored 183 goals in 393 games for them. He has scored 15 goals in 67 appearances for Everton. He also played for Everton in the 2017-18 season. Former England captain Rooney has scored 53 goals in 120 games for them.
