Beloved Cristiano Ronaldo, Georgina Rodriguezmaking fun of Portugal manager Fernando Santos after CR7 was left on the bench as Portugal beat Switzerland 6-1 in the round of 16 World Cup 2022Wednesday (7/12) early morning WIB.
Ronaldo was surprisingly benched by Santos for Portugal-Switzerland. The decision was taken by Santos after the 68-year-old coach expressed disappointment at Ronaldo’s attitude after being eliminated against South Korea in the last match of the group stage.
Santos just put on Ronaldo in the 74th minute when he replaced Goncalo Ramos, who successfully scored a hat-trick. The Benfica striker has become a figure who has replaced Ronaldo. It is the first time since 2008 that Ronaldo has been benched in a major tournament while he was fit.
Georgina, who was in attendance at the Lusail Iconic Stadium, said she was disappointed that Ronaldo was not played by Santos. Ronaldo, called Georgina, remains the main focus even though he was a backup during Portugal’s match against Switzerland.
“Congratulations Portugal. As the 11 players sing their nationality again, all the cameras are on you [Ronaldo]. It’s a shame we couldn’t enjoy the best players in the world for 90 minutes. The audience hasn’t stopped calling and shouting your name,” Georgina wrote Mirror.
Georgina therefore hopes Ronaldo can start for Portugal against Morocco in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup on Saturday (10/12).
“God bless you and your good friend Fernando [Santos]they will continue to join hands and you can enjoy another match night for us” Georgina wrote.
Santos confirmed that his relationship with Ronaldo is fine. The coach who led Portugal to their 2016 European Cup victory has said the decision to bench Ronaldo was purely down to strategy.
“There are no problems with our captain. We have been friends for a long time. He has no problems with my decision. He is a role model. Ronaldo is our captain. He always tries to help. It’s not a problem if Ronaldo plays in the next match. Let’s see what happens” Santos said after Portugal-Switzerland.
