Many personalize their laptop by sticking stickers on the lid, but that could be more modern! ASUS ROG comes with the Zephyrus G14, a gaming laptop with a matrix display on the lid.

ROG, ASUS ‘gaming brand, initially focuses on creating powerful gaming systems. However, they always like to provide an eye-catcher. They proved that with the ROG Zephyrus Duo Gaming, a laptop with two screens. Now they do it again with the Zephyrus G14, although the eye catcher is a bit more subtle.

ASUS describes the gaming laptop itself as “the most powerful 14-inch gaming laptop in the world”. That in itself is enough to get attention, but the device also has 1215 individual mini-LEDs on the lid of the laptop. The user can personalize this display with images or animations. You never know that you are in the auditorium and want to send a subtle message to the teacher. Audio visualisations are also possible that follow the rhythm of the music. That in itself is of little use, since you rarely look at the lid of your laptop when you use it. However, an update gives the display a practical added value, because then it will also be used to display notifications for new messages, battery life and more. Compare it with a flip phone that shows messages on a small display.

Compact all-rounder

With its 14-inch, thin housing and weight of 1.6 kilograms, the device invites you to take it with you. Internally, we find a special version of the AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS processor that is more economical and less hot. You will also find 16 GB (8 GB + 8GB) DRAM DDR4 3200 RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 (Max-Q). In terms of storage, you get a 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD, which may be just a little too little for today’s demanding games. The device is available for 2199 euros. The version without matrix display is available for 1,999 euros.
