Rocket League wordt 23 september free to play

In July, it was announced that Rocket League free-to-play this summer would become. Now it becomes clear that the developer will not keep that promise. The game will be free to play on September 23, while the summer ends on September 22. Scandalous.

Developer Psyonix has announced that Rocket League will be free to play on all platforms starting September 23. To prepare the game for that transition, there will be one tomorrow (September 16) update be rolled out. This update includes the following:

  • Cross-platform progression linking: existing players will be able to link their platforms to their Epic Games account.
  • Legacy Status Items: Players who have purchased Rocket League will receive their legacy items. You can find more information about this in our previous article.
  • Support for the Support-A-Creator program from Epic Games. Players will be able to enter a creator code when purchasing items from the show to support a creator.
  • General quality of life additives. More information can be found in the blog post from the developer.

The following things will change on September 23 (when the game becomes free to play):

  • Rocket League makes its debut on the Epic Games Store. Players can already add the game to their wishlist.
  • Updates to Tournaments and Challenges.
  • The return of Rocket Pass with the start of the first season. More info on this will be revealed soon.
  • Two new item packs will be available for purchase: the Endo Starter Pack and Jäger Pack.
