The US Attorney General has announced the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, who is accused of tax evasion by the courts and questionable foreign business by the Republican opposition . David Weiss, a federal prosecutor, was already investigating “allegations of criminal conduct by, among others, Robert Hunter Biden”said Merrick Garland during a brief speech on Friday, August 11.
The attorney general said David Weiss told him on Tuesday that he believed he had reached a point in his investigation that required him to be appointed special prosecutor. “He has requested to be appointed. After considering his request, as well as the extraordinary circumstances surrounding this matter, I have concluded that it is in the public interest to appoint him as a special prosecutor”, continued Merrick Garland. He did not give further details. The news comes as Joe Biden aims for a second term.
In June, Hunter Biden pleaded guilty in a federal income tax fraud case. He also had to reach an agreement with the prosecution, which amounts to an admission of guilt, in a case of violation of the legislation on firearms, while he was a drug addict.
The 53-year-old has been targeted for years by his father’s predecessor, Donald Trump, and Republicans. The latter accuse him of corruption and assure that the Department of Justice is trying at all costs to avoid a prison sentence for the son of the current president.
