19 People Died Due to Clashes and Burning Karaoke Place in Sorong

TRIBUNNEWS.COM, JAKARTA – The Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo, said that at least 19 people died as a result of a clash between two mobs that led to the burning of the Double O karaoke place in Sorong City, West Papua on Tuesday (25/1/2022).

Dedi explained that 18 people died because they were trapped in a burning nightclub.

Meanwhile, another person died in the clashes.

“One died due to clashes and 18 died in a burning entertainment venue. That’s just initial information,” said Dedi when confirmed, Tuesday (25/1/2022).

Furthermore, Dedi said that the West Papua Police together with the Sorong Police had suppressed the clashes between the two groups.

Police are still investigating the cause of the clashes.

“For the Sorong Police and the Sorong Police, starting last night it has reduced the incidence of clashes between the 2 groups. They are still being investigated,” explained Dedi.

Furthermore, Dedi added that his party is still looking for intellectual actors who caused the clashes and the burning of the entertainment venues.

“Currently an investigation and investigation is being carried out to reveal the intellectual actors and perpetrators of the two groups,” he said.

For information, dozens of people were reportedly burned to death at the Double O karaoke place during a riot between two groups of residents in Sorong City, West Papua on Tuesday (25/1/2022).
