After 11 years in the MCU, actor Robert Downey Jr. claims that he has done everything he could do with the character of Iron Man.
Marvel Studios announced last Friday numerous novelties of its phases 4 and 5. In the last 12 years the MCU has expanded and will continue doing it in the future. A risky project that began take shape with the launch of the first installment of Iron Man in 2008. Since then, Robert Downey Jr. became the MCU image. But everything comes to an end and the actor said goodbye to Marvel in Endgame.
Now Robert Downey Jr. faces the life after from Marvel. Although the actor is expected to have a cameo in Black Widow next year, he will not star in any studio movie. Downey Jr. met with Hindustan Times to talk of his career. He is grateful to him iron man role but it is time to move on. “Playing Tony / Iron Man was difficult and I got quite involved. I had 10 incredible years that were creatively satisfying. ”
“I’ve done everything I could do with that character and now I can do other things. Now, being a middle-aged person, you look back and realize that everything is part of a journey and things have an end. I am lucky and eternally grateful to have finished when I did. “
Robert Downey Jr. wants embark on new projects. His time at Marvel has awakened a new ambition in his carrer. One of his future projects is the Sherlock Holmes third installment, although it is unknown when it opens. Another aspect that Robert Downey Jr. takes into account is his family and he does not want to start projects that keep him very far from them.
“I had an incredible 10 years with Marvel and they pushed me creatively. Now I have more ambition and I want to do things that I have never done before. Evolving is key. The worst thing you can do is get in the way of your own path. I want to be a good husband, father and citizen so it would be irresponsible of me not to keep an eye on the future. So I can mentally prepare for what may come and the transition. As an actor, now every time I read a script I think about the commitment and the time that I will be away from my wife and children ”.
Although Robert Downey Jr. has said goodbye to Marvel, the legacy of his Iron Man will continue to be present in the future of the MCU. Now, after the Disney Investor Day they know each other two new titles closely related to Iron Man. Armor Wars, starring Don Cheedle, will explore a world in which Tony Stark’s worst fear comes true, your technology falls into wrong hands. On the other hand, Ironheart will introduce the Riri Williams of Dominique Thorne, a young engineer whose intelligence could compete with Stark’s.
