Road Atlanta & Roval statt Watkins Glen & Lime Rock

(Motorsport-Total.com) – Just like the racing calendar of the IndyCar series, the racing calendar of the IMSA SportsCar Championship is constantly changing. Due to the corona virus pandemic, two races have now been canceled: the 6 hours at Watkins Glen in early September and the race in Lime Rock Park in August, which would have been reserved for the GT classes.

As a replacement for Watkins Glen, a 6-hour race will be run on the Road Atlanta race track in the US state of Georgia on September 6. Regardless of this, the Petit Le Mans will still take place on October 17 over a distance of ten hours.

The other adjustment to the calendar includes the debut of a new racetrack. Because on October 9th he will be accompanied by the NASCAR supporting program on the Charlotte Motor Speedway’s infield circuit known as Roval.

However, the prototypes of the DPi and LMP2 classes do not drive on the Roval in Charlotte. Instead, like the canceled lime rock race, this race is reserved for the two GT classes (GTLM and GTD).

The reason that Watkins Glen and Lime Rock have been deleted is due to the corona numbers and rules in the respective states of New York and Connecticut. Watkins Glen was deleted from this year’s NASCAR calendar a few weeks ago.

The IMSA 2020 calendar currently includes seven dates after the race in Elkhart Lake (Sunday). However, there are fears that there will be at least one more adjustment. Because Laguna Seca is considered very endangered. The California route has already been deleted from the IndyCar calendar for this year.
