The rain did not spare the competitors at Road America with a very wet first free practice session. A thunderstorm even delayed the session by an hour.
Harry Tincknell was the fastest of the session behind the wheel of the # 55 Mazda RT24-P with a best time of 2: 09.769, or 0.399s faster than Filipe Albuquerque on the Acura ARX-05 / Wayne Taylor Racing . Third fastest time for Kevin Magnussen in the Cadillac DPi-VR / Chip Ganassi Racing.
PR1 / Mathiasen Motorsports took the best time in LMP2 thanks to the Oreca 07 of Ben Keating and Mikkel Jensen. Dominance of Andretti Motorsport (Andretti / Askew) in LMP3, Corvette Racing (Garcia / Taylor) in GTLM and Pfaff Motorsports (Vanthoor / Robichon) in GTD.
