RIVM reports 4,129 positive tests, less than average (5,137) | NOW

In the past 24 hours, 4,129 positive corona tests have been reported to the RIVM, the smallest number in almost two months. The average of the past seven days is 5,137 positive tests.

NU.nl looks at the average of the past seven days, because this gives a better picture than the fluctuating daily figures.

The Netherlands now has nearly a million infections with the corona virus. Eighteen countries worldwide have so far crossed that border. On Sunday, the counter in the Netherlands was about 950,000 positive tests.

The RIVM reports 40 corona-related deaths. This does not necessarily mean that these persons have all died in the past 24 hours. There may be a delay between the date of death and the notification date.

Averages for the past week

  • Monday, January 25: 5,137

  • Thursday, January 21: 5,354
  • Wednesday, January 20: 5,452

Vaccination rate reduced by fewer doses of AstraZeneca

The pace of vaccination will slow down because pharmaceutical AstraZeneca can deliver fewer vaccines in the first quarter. That says Minister Hugo de Jonge (Public Health) Monday.

According to De Jonge, that message came as a “bolt from the blue” because the Netherlands was expecting “substantial deliveries” in the first quarter. A “number of months” less will be supplied by the pharmaceutical company. De Jonge still assumes that it will be possible to vaccinate everyone in the Netherlands before autumn.

A spokesperson for the company cannot say how many doses will arrive in the Netherlands later in conversation with NU.nl.
