The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) reports on Monday that the number of deceased corona patients has increased by 8. That’s a smaller number of deaths than reported exactly a week ago (14). RIVM also reports 8 new hospital admissions. Last Monday there were 27 recordings.
The death toll in the Netherlands is now at 5,830. A total of 11,680 persons were or were hospitalized. The number of positive tests increased by 209 on Monday to 45,445.
The reports arrive with some delay. This means that not all deaths and hospitalizations occurred in the past 24 hours. In addition, the actual numbers are larger, because not everyone is tested.
In the first nine weeks of the pandemic, nearly nine thousand more people died than usual in the Netherlands, according to figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). It is not known how many of these individuals were infected with the coronavirus.
In the tenth week, several hundred fewer people died than usual. This is because very vulnerable people died earlier than they would under normal circumstances. Last week’s figures are not yet known.
