Riot Games raises bug bounties for kernel-level anti-chat software – Gaming – News

Riot Games aims to reassure critics of its new anti-chat software Vanguard by raising bug bounties to a maximum of $ 100,000. The anti-chat runs at the kernel level and is always active. The software is included with its new shooter Valorant.

The $ 100,000 is for code execution at the kernel level, run from the network and with no required user interaction. Other less serious vulnerabilities yield less, with the lowest being local attack for privelege escalation resulting in access to sensitive $ 25,000 data. However, Riot doesn’t note how much it previously paid for vulnerabilities, only that it has paid a total of nearly $ 2 million in premiums so far.

In addition to an extra-high vulnerability premium in Vanguard, Riot has one on Friday blog post in which it further explains how the aggressive anti-cheat works and why this method was chosen, although again they cannot go into much detail because cheat makers also read along. Ars Technica also published one last week extensive piece on Riot’s anti-cheat, with additional comments from the developer and experts.

The anti-cheat shooter, Valorant, is currently in closed beta. The game drew one record number viewers on Twitch earlier this month, although that statistic isn’t natural: viewers could win a spot in the closed beta by watching streams from the game. The game drew 1.7 million viewers. The new game combines elements from Overwatch and CS: GO. In the summer, Valorant should be available to all players worldwide. The game is free to play.
